Comfort teddies

My mam used to love making things for charity: Quilts for families made homeless and heart shaped pillows for ladies diagnosed with breast cancer (the pillows tuck underneath the arm to give pain relief) were two of her favourites.

One of her quilting friends mentioned that she had started knitting little comfort teddies for children suffering from trauma. As the charity was in need of more teddies my mam dusted off her knitting needles and set to work.

When my mam died in March she left some quilts and teddies that needed completing. So instead of melting from hand sewing one of her quilts I decided this week to do something a little cooler. I finished knitting the teddies.

There's enough wool left to make a couple more so they may be getting some new friends soon.

Have a great week.

Gertie xx

PS why not pop over to Handmade Monday to see what other fellow craft bloggers have been up to.

  2. What a lovely idea, your mum was clearly a very caring lady. It's not easy to find something to do when its been this hot, but the bears look adorable. I wonder do you have any contacts for the heart shaped pillows? I'd really like to see if its something I can do too.

    1. I'm afraid I don't know a great deal about the pillows as it was done through my mam's quilting class.

The pillows were distributed by the RVI hospital in Newcastle as part of a gift pack for newly diagnosed patients. Your local hospital might do something similar so it's worth contacting them.

As for the patten I'm not sure where they got it from. It may have come from the hospital. However I've found a website which show you how to make them http://www.heartpillow.dk/

      Hope this helps xx

  15. What a good use to put your crafting towards. Your mam will probably still be crafting 'on the other side' too and so glad you finished one of her WIPs! We don't get those fluffy clouds by magic - someone has to knit them!
