Crosses before my eyes

For the past few years I’ve made it a little tradition of cross stitching a Christmas card (or two).  Here are this year’s offerings.

There is another one nearly completed. I’ve just got to finish the backstitching so that should be ready for the big day.

These are previous year’s cards.

Things have been really slow with ‘Gertie’s Bags’. When it was first open for business on Folksy a month ago I did get a few hits and a couple of ‘likes’, but sadly that’s tailored off.  I also tried the eBay market with a small number of make up bags, but again nothing. I’m not giving up as I know it can take a while to get established.

Having read books on starting your own craft business social network seemed to be very big in promoting yourself. That maybe my downfall as other than blogger and, more recently, pinterest, I don’t use any of the others.

I do have a facebook page (I was persuaded into getting one by my friends) but I never use it. I just can’t see why you’d want to tell the world ‘I’m in a restaurant eating a bowl of spaghetti and here’s a picture of it’ or ‘I’m doing the weekly grocery shopping in ASDA’.....

Got any tips for a social network phobic!!!!

Have a great week.

Gertie xx

PS why not pop over to Handmade Monday to see what other fellow craft bloggers have been up to.

  1. Greetings! Your Christmas cards are beautiful little works of art. I admire your needle skills. Don't give up on your Folksy store. My etsy store is slow but I still sell things throughout the year. Have you "promoted" your goods at the Folksy site? My daughter does that with her etsy store and it's been very successful. Have a wonderful week :)

  2. I haven't done any cross stitch for quite some time, yours is just beautiful. The Santa is just so cute.

  3. Your cards are beautiful. They would be the perfect size for me to craft at. I made a picture of the last supper for my mother in law and it took me 10 years. My excuse was it was on black aida. I will email you a link re using Facebook for businesses on Etsy. Hope this may help.

  4. Beautiful little cross stitching Gertie. Don't be too downhearted with the bags - I'm two years into my business now and sales are few and far between but things will pick up the more you get them out there.

  5. What patience you have! beautiful cards! Be aware of Facebook, they are changing the rules in mid January and unless you pay to advertise any posts with advertising or promoting will get a far lower reach, so basically unless you pay your business won't be seen as much as it does at the moment. It is so hard to be seen isn't it. I started using Instagram as well as Twitter, Pinterest and my blog but I know I need to do far more. It is very hard to get sales and everywhere you go it seems to keep getting harder! Lots and lots of luck to you xx
